How To Use Metal Polish
How To Use Metal Polish
All Polished Metals require special care to maintain that rich new luster. Protect your investment. Follow these simple steps:

Regular Maintenance:

Hose off all loose dirt and debris. Wash wheels thoroughly with a mild Non-Caustic Non-Corrosive wheel cleaner, a mild car wash or dish soap also works well. Dry wheels with a soft clean cloth making sure wheel is completely dry before continuing. Use Gliptone Ultra Fine Grade Liquid or Treated Cotton on new lightly oxidized wheels.

Etching, Fine Pitting & Scratches:

Use Gliptone Coarse Grade Liquid or Treated Cotton to strip and smooth heavy corrosion, etching and pitting. (Do NOT use Coarse Grade on Chrome or any other Plated Metals) Remove excess residue, then follow up with Gliptone Ultra Fine Grade Liquid or Treated Cotton to return your wheels to their original luster.

Road Tar:

Remove all large chunks of tar with a rag and your finger. Dislodged pieces of tar can scratch your wheels. Take extra care to regularly turn your rag while removing the tar. Soak the tar with Gliptone Medium Grade Liquid or Treated Cotton making sure to keep the tar moist with polish. Lightly work back and forth with a rag. When all tar is removed, follow up with Gliptone Ultra Fine Grade Liquid or Treated Cotton to return your wheels to their original luster.

Stubborn Stains:

Use Gliptone Medium Grade Liquid or Treated Cotton.

Common Polishing Mistakes:

Always polish with a soft Clean dry cloth such as a baby diaper or MicroFiber Cloths, Terry cloth alone can scratch the metal. Be sure to fold your polish applicator at least twice, making a thick pad to prevent "finger marks". The space between your fingers will leave a low spot on your applicator, giving the finish an inconsistent look. While polishing, if your applicator rag or your take of rag is dropped on the ground, Do NOT continue using it. Your rag is now contaminated with dirt and debris. For the ultimate finish, always finish with the grain of the metal. Metal has a grain just like wood. The final finish of any wheel should be done from the top to bottom or bottom to top with the grain. Polishing your metal cross grain will leave scratches and a hazy look on your finished project.
